NFL 1979, Week 7: Tampa Bay 50, New Orleans 27

Experts had been wondering in this 1979 NFL season how the New Orleans offense would be stopped.  As it turned out, it was their defense that proved to be their undoing as the Buccaneers exploded for points galore, handing the Saints their first loss, 50-27.

The MVP of the game could have gone many ways, but Bucs wideout Issac Hagins took the honors.  He had a field day against the Saints secondary, catching 4 TD passes of 6, 22, 61, and 19 yards respectively.  In all, Hagins caught 7 passes good for 139 yards.

The Bucs move to 4-3, while the Saints fall to 6-1.

NFL 1979, Week 6: Tampa Bay 40, NY Giants 14

Cedric Brown, the Player Of The Week for Week 6 of NFL 1979.

Key turnovers by the Giants were the key in this battle as Tampa Bay broke their all-time single game scoring record with a 40-14 pounding of the G-Men up in the Meadowlands in their week six tussle.

Cedric Brown was the player of the game AND player of the week, as he scored two defensive touchdowns.  In the first quarter, he recovered a fumble and returned it 22 yards to paydirt just 53 seconds into the game.  In the third quarter, it was Phil Simms getting picked off by Brown, who returned his pick for six from 34 yards out to give the Bucs a 27-7 lead they wouldn’t come close to relinquishing.

The Bucs move up to 3-3, the Giants fall to 1-5.
